Mistreatement Party!

Some of you may know about The Nester and if you do, you understand my fascination. I love her decorating style, and having recently moved, I need a decorating intervention of some sort. Anyway, The Nester has given me all sorts of inspiration, and the shower door was my first step.

For anyone not familiar with The Nester's vocabulary, here's the quick version I copied from her blog:

Mistreatment: (n). covering for a window that is quick, cheap and pretty. may or may not need hardware does not require sewing. a real designer's worst nightmare.

Mistreating: (v). the act of treating a window with dignity and respect without use of the following: hundreds of dollars, sewing, time, crying, divorce, child neglect...

That being said, I mistreated the shower door in the basement of the Pink Bathroom. The ingredients I used for this project are: 2 yards of fabric and velcro.

You may have read in the above definition that Mistreating doesn't involve sewing, but in this case, I had no choice as it involved attaching fabric to metal. So, here's how I did it: Sticky velcro on metal door, sew-on velcro along top of fabric, voila! Total cost: about $10.00.

Here's the before and after:
There. Now maybe that pink toilet, sink, and tile won't stand out quite so much! My son is thanking me already. The rest of the bathroom is still a work in progress, so I'll post pictures of the entire project when it is finished.

And here's the kitchen done with unhemmed, (yes, gasp, UNHEMMED) fabric and upohlstery tacks!

And here's the dining room/family room before and after:

I LOVE it . It is a great step to jazzing up a teenage daughter's bathroom. Marianne and I figured that she could copy that idea in her bathroom. Hope she sees the cute post.

Great idea. I need to do this in my master bathroom. We currently have an UGLY glass door that I need to desperately do something to.

Thanks for the inspirations!

Those polka dots are perfect for that bathroom! Love the other window treatments too. Man, do you have some awesome windows in that house. I love houses that have so many windows that you feel like your outdoors. Very pretty!
